We remain in the same pattern through the end of the work week in terms of unseasonably cool and clouds building in by the afternoon, with sunny breaks before sunset. A few scattered showers linger into Maine, otherwise the rest of the area remains dry through the rest of our Wednesday evening.

Temperatures overnight slip into the upper 30s in pockets of northern New England, 40s for southern New England. With a partial clearing of the skies overnight, we could see some glimpses of the full "flower" moon.

Both Thursday and Friday brings mostly cloudy skies with some peeks of sun here and there with highs into the 50s.

Now that the pattern remains stagnant through Friday, it’s the weekend that churns up the next big weather maker, bringing heavy rain at times and gusty winds.

Saturday starts off dry and mostly cloudy before the rain slides in as early as midday into western New England. The rain will continue to spread into eastern New England late in the day and into the evening. The rain arrives into Maine by Saturday night as the system turns coastal.

The heaviest rain will be mainly along the southern coastline and into southeastern Massachusetts into early Sunday morning. So, Mother’s Day will be soggy, and blustery, with gusts nearing 40-50 miles per hour along the Cape and coastal regions, otherwise farther inland can expect winds near 30 miles per hour.

We could also see some minor flooding with rainfall totals nearing 1-2 inches through Sunday evening. Sunday high temperatures will only stretch into the lower 50s.

This coastal system stalls in the Gulf of Maine Sunday night and Monday with a continuation of mostly cloudy skies and bands of rain for northern New England. We should be able to dry it out in the western New England Monday, but stay damp in the east with a high temperature in the 50s on Monday.

We finally warm-up through the next work week under plenty of sunshine with highs in the 70s as early as Wednesday.
