A 50-year-old New London man is dead after the canoe he and his son were fishing in capsized on Sunday morning in North Stonington.

State EnCon police said emergency crews were called to Lake of Isles around 7:30 a.m. after a 14-foot-canoe flipped over.

The father, Peter R. Fajayan Sr., of New London, was missing for around an hour and emergency crews pulled him from the water around 8:45 a.m.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His son made it to shore safely.
