Mass. Marijuana Rules Raise Concerns for Employers

(NECN/WNT: Katelyn Tivnan) - There are still many questions when it comes to medical marijuana use in the corporate world.

"Employers are going to want to be proactive. They can start by making sure they have a comprehensive policy that addresses some of these issues," said Amy Royal, President of Royal LLC, which is working with Massachusetts companies on how to prepare and understand new laws.

"Is there going to be an increase risk in workplace injuries? And can we take action on employees who are using marijuana for medical reasons?"

Royal said that the law is clear -- employers to not need to accommodate medical marijuana use in the workplace.

She also explained that the law allows employers to hire and fire employees for medical marijuana use at their own discretion.
