Charlie Baker's “Sweetheart” Comment Stirs Debate

Baker referred to a reporter as "sweetheart" earlier this week

President Obama was front and center this past week as he dealt with an array of issues. Obama addressed the terrorism threat ISIS presents, the Ebola crisis in Liberia, global warming, and his own falling polling numbers.

Given Obama's recent actions, it comes as a surprise how many Americans don't think to much about the U.S. Government and don't know too much as well.

The New York Times reported that a third of Americans can't even name a single branch of government.

Kirsten Hughes, the chair of the Massachusetts Republican party, and Setti Warren, the mayor of Newton, both joined Jim Braude on Broadside, to discuss the week that was in the political world.

The two began by talking local politics, and specifically the recent comments made toward a reporter by Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker.

"Okay, this is going to be the last one sweetheart, then I'm going to have to go," said Baker during an interview with a Fox 25 reporter.

Warren and Hughes debated whether Baker's remarks sum up who he is a person.

"As a chief executive, a person running for the highest office as far as state government is concerned, you have to be careful to set the right tone and policy," said Warren.

Hughes said the situation is an issued created by Democrats because all the momentum is currently on Baker's side in the race for governor.

"This is democrats jumping on the only bandwagon they see that they can make a big deal about," said Hughes.
