Schwartz's Bid in Mass. 5th Democratic Primary

Dr. Sheldon Schwartz is challenging Katherine Clark in the Sept. 9 primary

Katherine Clark was sworn in as Ed Markey's successor in Congress just last December, but she's already running again.

She'll be on the Democratic primary ballot on Sept. 9 for Massachusetts' 5th Congressional District, but she won't be alone.

Dr. Sheldon Schwartz, a retired Lexington physician, is a first-time political candidate.

"I decided to get into politics because I really believe Washington is broken. We have people who issue platitudes, party line talking points, they go there and very little gets done. And I think that the main problem really is that they're knee-jerk Democrats and they're unwilling to reach across the aisle," he said.
