3 killed in crash on Route 95 in Attleboro, MA

(NECN: Attleboro, MA) - Massachusetts State Police are investigating a one-vehicle crash on Route 95 that resulted in 3 fatalities.

The crash happened on the northbound side of Route 95 at Exit 3 (Route 123) in Attleboro, MA.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2003 Mazda sedan operated by an adult male rolled over ejecting all four unbelted occupants.

An adult male was transported to Rhode Island hospital with serious injuries.

The other three adult males were fatally injured and pronounce deceased at the scene.

Sagamore Bridge crash snarls Cape traffic

(NECN) - Massachusetts State Police say a four-car accident shut down the Sagamore bridge in both directions this afternoon for about an hour. At least one person was injured.

Witnesses sat one car heading north somehow flipped into the air, and landed in traffic heading to the Cape.

At one point traffic was backed up for 15 miles on the southbound side of Route 3.

"Rosie's" encourages girls to learn non-traditional skills

(NECN: Anya Huneke, Essex, VT) - If you're looking for a summer camp with swimming pools, tennis courts, and musical theater you won't find it here.

What you will find are tool belts, speed squares and chop saws. And many young girls with the skills to use them.

13-year-old Lindsay Lozell is one of those girls, who, in a week and a half, has gone from terrified to excited.

When it comes to power tools, Lindsay says, "Before I thought I could hammer nails... now a big piece of lumber can be turned into little beauties."

Flood cleanup continues in Connecticut

(NECN: Brian Burnell, Stonington, Conn.) - According to the National Weather Service Stonington, Connecticut got seven inches of rain in 24 hours starting Wednesday. Here it is, Friday, and the cleanup continues. Flooding is the big problem. Its been such a wet spring and early summer the ground was unable to absorb any more water so where does it end up?

Mass. officials offer public summer traffic tips

BOSTON (AP) - State officials say the Fourth of July holiday ushers in the height of the summer driving season, so they have a few reminders for all travelers.

The Massachusetts Turnpike and other major highways are busiest on Friday and Sunday afternoons, so they suggest alternate travel times.

They say the last Friday in July and the first Friday in August were ranked number two and three for the heaviest traffic volume days last year. Sundays in August also topped the busiest Sundays of the year.

Boston prepares for Fourth of July celebration

(NECN: Kristen Caira, Boston, Mass.) - All eyes are on Boston's Esplanade this weekend, as the city gets ready to host its big July Fourth celebration.

The main event is tomorrow, but there's still plenty going on tonight.

Neil Diamond will headline the annual Boston Pops celebration on the Esplanade Saturday night, hosted by CBS' Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson.

The Grammy Award winner arrived in Boston just in time for Friday morning's sound check.

Mass. teen to compete in U.S. Women's Open

(NECN: Jennifer Eagan) - Brittany Altomare drove, chipped, and putted her way around Cyprian Keyes golf course in Boylston Friday.

It was one of the last times the Shrewsbury teen will play at her home course before heading to the 2009 U.S. Women's Open next week.

Altomare medaled at the qualifying tournament in New Jersey in June.

“It felt really good,” Altomare said, “I was definitely thinking of my grampa because I know he would have loved to hear me say I made it.”

The 18-year-old will enter the most prestigious tournament in women's golf as one of twenty amateurs.

Thousands descend on Worcester for Summer Nationals

(NECN: Kenneth Craig) - One of the hottest events in Worcester this weekend is the New England Summer Nationals. The vintage car show is one of the largest in the Northeast.

It's a combination of classic car show, meets parade, meets camp ground.

Some people come just to look, some to buy and sell, others to show off.

Organizers estimate the event at Green Hill Park and on Main Street draws in over 150 thousand people and a big economic boost for local businesses.
