(NECN) - White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that President Barack Obama is confident in FEMA Director William Craig Fugate's abilities to handle an emergency situation should one come with Hurricane Irene.

He also said that the White House advises residents who live within the path of Hurricane Irene to not only listen to local emergency officials, but to follow their instructions carefully, as well.

Earnest also says that people should look at ready.gov for more information. Check out NECN's page for hurricane tips, too.
