Shinseki's Resignation a Small Step in Effort to Fix VA

The resignation of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki on Friday is the first step in a long battle to fix the VA, NBC News reported. Scandal over waiting lists at VA hospitals led to hundreds of calls for Shinseki's resignation this month and the embattled secretary believed he couldn't carry out future reforms without becoming a distraction himself. But the issue of wait times is nothing new — it has been detailed in reports going all the way back to 2004. A report President Obama received Friday shows 64% of VA medical facilities are still falsifying medical appointment dates. In Washington Friday, Obama blamed the system for the agency's failures, while House Speaker Boehner said it's Obama's leadership that's the issue.
