(NECN) - On the September 29 edition of Chief Executives' Club, Mitsubishi chairman Yorihiko Kojima spoke about his company, as well as Japan's foreign relations and domestic policy.

Kojima explained that Boston had an important role in initiating Japanese-American relations, when an American ship rescued a 14-year-old boy whose boat was wrecked on an uninhabited island during a period of Japanese isolation.
"Our ties are not limited to the history," he said. "The Red Sox recently clinched the American League East title. That's good! I am proud to know, Koji Uehara has been accepted by the Red Sox community and he played a major role in this accomplishment."
Veering back to business, Kojima discussed Mitsubishi's current status.
"Our gross profit for the year, the financial year of 2012, was approximately $10 billion U.S.," he said. "We have an office in Boston, as well, which is mainly involved in the defense-related business, with the Raytheon company."
Kojima also talked extensively about Japan's foreign policy.

"As you know, Tokyo has been selected as the host city of the 2020 Summer Olympics. Frankly speaking, I was thrilled to hear that our nation was accepted," Kojima said. "Since World War II, our nations have continued to be strong allies ... The Japan-U.S. alliance remained the backbone of foreign diplomacy."
