Man Denied Delay in Teacher Killing Sentencing

Allen Prue was convicted of first-degree murder in the 2012 killing of 32-year-old Melissa Jenkins

A judge has denied delaying the sentence until next year for a man convicted of luring a prep-school teacher out of her Vermont home and then killing her.

Allen Prue was convicted of first-degree murder in the 2012 killing of 32-year-old Melissa Jenkins, a St. Johnsbury Academy teacher. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 17.

Prue asked for a delay until after the March trial of his wife, Patricia Prue, who also is charged in the death. She's pleaded not guilty.

The Caledonian Record reports Judge Robert Bent said he would be willing to extend the sentencing beyond a day if it became necessary, due to expert testimony. Prue's lawyer is considering calling a psychologist to testify about his evaluation of Patricia Prue; he wasn't allowed to at trial.
