A young driver has died after crashing into a telephone pole in Brockton, Massachusetts, Sunday night.
Nineteen-year-old Tony Sostre was behind the wheel of a Mercedes car just before 9:30 p.m. when it hit the pole and then a tree on East Street near Hopkins Road, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.
Sostre was taken to Brockton Hospital and later pronounced dead, officials said.
“Just hard to understand,” said the teen’s grandfather, also named Tony. “Why, why.”

The junior at Brockton High School was a car enthusiast who also loved the outdoors.
“He loved to go fishing every chance we got, we’d go fishing, every car show we could made it to we made it,” said his father, also named Tony Sostre.
The scene of the fatal crash became a tribute site with candles and balloons.

Sostre's grandfather wanted to see it for himself.
“God got to take the good, I don’t understand it, I still can’t get it through my head that he’s gone,” said the grandfather.
Family members also visited with Unicue Buissereth, who lives just steps away from the crash and along with another neighbor stayed with the teenager until first responders arrived.
“I was like ‘can you speak to me, can you talk to me, can you squeeze my hand, can you blink’, we were trying to keep his head up, so we can keep him alive and active before the police came here,” said Buissereth.
Sostre's family is very grateful to the kindness of strangers.
“God bless them, they came out, at least he didn’t die alone,” said Sostre's grandfather. “The girl was holding his hand.”
Sostre's family says they are donating his organs.
It’s unknown what caused the fatal crash to take place. Police say they are investigating the circumstances leading up it.
