The 89th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee is underway with its preliminary round.
This year, 285 spellers will compete for the title of 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion.
That includes ten children from New England. Those kids are:
Dwaritha Ramesh of Granby, Connecticut: 8th grader at Granby Memorial Middle School
Emily Sun of Boston, Massachusetts: 7th grader at Boston Latin School
Lela Ann Festa of Still River, Massachusetts: 8th grader at the Immaculate Heart of Mary School
Mitchell Robson of Danvers, Massachusetts: 8th grader at St. John's Preparatory School

Sam Fetters of West Tisbury, Massachusetts: 6th grader at West Tisbury School
Arushi Kalpande of Nashua, New Hampshire: 8th grader at Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High School
Javier Alicea-Santiago of Orono, Maine: 6th grader at Orono Middle School
Syra Gutow of Castine, Maine: 8th grader at Adams School
Lucinda Maybelle Storz of Lyndonville, Vermont: 7th grader at Thaddeus Stevens School
Christopher Relyea of Lincoln, Rhode Island: 7th grader at Lincoln Middle School
The finals of the Bee will be broadcast Thursday night on ESPN.
