CVS Gets 75 Million Fine for Over-selling Meth Ingredient

(NECN) - Rhode Island based CVS has been hit with a historic fine. The pharmacy chain will pay $75 million in federal penalties.

Prosecutors say CVS repeatedly allowed people to buy a key ingredient in methamphetamine.

They say drug trafficking in Southern California increased significantly because pharmacies did not limit purchases of pseudoephedrine.

The fine is the largest civil penalty ever assessed under the controlled substances act.
