Fatal Shooting in Worcester, Mass. Leaves 2 Dead

(NECN: Katelyn Tivnan) - Police in Worcester, Mass. are trying to figure out what set off a violent morning in the city when they responded to a shooting.

Worcester Police spent hours Monday collecting evidence at this Hadwen Road home, just hours after a serious shooting.

“We responded to that address and discovered two victims of a shooting in the front porch of the multi family dwelling,” says Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst.

“Police blocked off both ends of the street and a crowd of people was in front of the house,” says neighbor Larry Anderson.

According to police, they responded to the home just after 7 Monday morning. They say when they arrived, they found a male and female on the front porch suffering from serious injuries.

Both were sent to the hospital and later pronounced dead. One gun was found at the scene.

“Now conducting investigation,” Sgt. Hazelhurst says. “At this point, it appears it's an isolated incident of domestic violence.”

Police say they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

“At this point, we’re still looking for motive, obtaining search warrants, looking into cell phone, texting, but based on evidence we’ve obtained thus far, it seems to be a situation involving domestic violence.”

People who live nearby say they are surprised by this kind of violence in their neighborhood.

“Very quiet, you see people walking with dogs, kids playing around, nothing crazy,” says neighbor Ervin Kodra, “but this is insane, it’s very surprising.”

Police are confirming both the man and woman were pronounced dead at the hospital. They have not released their identities at this time. We are told the woman was a court officer in Boston and the man worked as a prison guard in Gardner.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
