Gov. Patricks Tax Plan Would Increase State Income Tax, MBTA Fares, More

(NECN) - We're learning more about Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick's new tax proposals and how much they would cost Bay State drivers and MBTA riders.

According to The Boston Globe, in addition to increasing the state income tax, Patrick’s plan would increase MBTA fares, as well as turnpike, tunnel and bridge tolls, by 5 percent every two years starting next year.

It also includes a half-cent increase in the state gas tax.

Patrick's plan would also eliminate tax deductions for dependents under the age of 12.

On Thursday night, the governor appeared on "Broadside" to defend his plan. You can see Jim Braude's entire interview with the governor here.
