(NECN) - Boston Latin Academy Senior Shawnna Thomas is a deserving recipient of The Gates Millennium Scholarships and will be attending Yale for free. She plans to study Classics, Women and Gender Studies. After Yale, she hopes to attend Yale Law School, and become a non-profit lawyer. At some point, she hopes to start her own NGO focused on providing legal, financial, health, and support services to victims of human trafficking and prostitution.
The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial need to reach their highest potential.
Yully Cha from the Steppingstone Foundation is also in studio. The Steppingstone Academy prepares motivated urban schoolchildren for acceptance and success at top independent and public exam schools in the greater Boston area.
