New Images Released of Newton, Mass. Bank Robbery Suspect

(NECN) - Police have released new surveillance images of a suspect they say robbed a bank in Newton, Mass. in an unusual fashion.

The suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Lashon Payton of Boston.

Investigators say Payton came into the Village Bank on Wyman Street Friday morning, yelled for everyone to get on the ground. He then took out a bottle and sprayed some sort of green liquid into an employee's face. Police say he then jumped up onto the counter, grabbed cash and took off.

During his escape, police say he took off his jump suit and gloves. They are asking anyone who has seen those items to call police.

Police tracked Payton down a short time later under a porch on Chestnut Street.

Payton was arraigned in Middlesex District Court Friday afternoon. He entered a not guilty plea and is being held on $5,000 cash bail. Payton is in court again July 3 for a dangerousness hearing.
