Review: Sarapes Restaurant

(TV Diner) - Located in charming Enfield, Connecticut, Sarapes Restaurant is home to some of the states most truly authentic Mexican cuisine.

This delightful little 'hole in the wall' has plenty of character, ambiance and tradition to go head to head with the competition.

The dcor is casual and colorful, as you would find on a trip South of the Border. The menu features most staples of the region, yet delivers them with outstanding taste and quality.

We started with the QuesoFlameado. A rich dish of layered cheeses and shredded sausage, served with diced onions and tomatos.

Not overly spicy, it was certainly not lacking in taste.

Next up was the Quesadilla Pollo. These were a nice take on the standard quesadilla with tender chicken and gooey cheeses.

We had to try the Chili Relleno. This one topped the charts for flavor and the airy egg batter and rich red sauce.

Next up was the Steak a la Mexican. Tender slivers of steak were sauted with onions, peppers and tomatoes for a mouth-watering combination. These were served with tortillas but delicious enough to eat alone.

The only dessert the house serves is Flan, yet what a custard this was! Rich and dense and loaded with egg, it was extremely satisfying and not too sweet.

Appetizers average around $8, entrees around $13 with dessert at $3.50. We found Serapes to be a very good value for the quality and generous portions. Our server was friendly and attentive.

Overall we rate Sarapes the Gold plate for a very good dining experience.

They can be reached at 860-745-7781 and found at 917 Enfield Street in Enfield Connecticut.
