(NECN: John Moroney) – A Taunton, Mass. teacher accused of raping students returned to court Tuesday. Patrick Doyle had another dangerousness hearing. This time, some of his friends spoke out, as well.
The 33-year-old social studies teacher will remain free on bail until his trial on a number of very serious charges, including allegations that he raped several eighth grade students at his school.
Patrick Doyle appeared in Fall River Superior Court Tuesday for a dangerousness hearing. The government had wanted the defendant held without bail saying he was a danger to the community.
Judge Thomas Maguire didn't see it that way.
The Bristol County DA’s office says Doyle is charged with having sex with three 14-year-old girls, as well as sending them sexually suggestive text messages and pictures.
Defense attorney Lefteris Travayiakis says his client is obviously concerned about the very serious allegations and he disputes them.
“I’m glad the judge made the right call today, the right decision. We look forward to getting down to the nitty gritty and challenging the evidence now,” the defense attorney said.

The defendant has been free on $150,000 cash.
The charges against Doyle have shocked his friends, some of whom testified I court on his behalf, hoping to convince the judge that he is not a danger to the community.
There are conditions to Doyle’s release. He has to stay away from children under the age of 16, as well as the homes of the alleged victims and Taunton High School. He must also wear a GPS monitor.
He will be back in court August 30.
