Thousands Expected to Attend Tribute to Bombing Victims

(NECN: Justin Michaels) - Tuesday marks the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings, and the city of Boston is remembering the people who were impacted by the attack.

The most high-profile tribute will take place Tuesday at the Hynes Convention Center. Thousands are expected to turn out, including Vice President Joe Biden.

Other guests will include Mass. Governor Deval Patrick, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and BAA Executive Director Tom Grilk.

In addition, there will be a formal flag-raising ceremony and brief moment of silence at the marathon finish line. There will be no speaker at this event.

A flag raising ceremony will be held at Brigham and Women's Hospital Tuesday morning. The flag, newly created to commemorate the bombings, will be raised for the first time until Marathon Monday.

The event will kick-off a day long program which includes panel presentations, conversations and other events revolving around "hope and healing."

On the campus of UMass Dartmouth, a vigil will take place in the afternoon, which also includes a moment of silence, followed by a ringing of the bells.

Students and faculty will be allowed to make remarks during the vigil, which will be held at the bell tower.

Before next week's big race, a one-mile marathon will be held Tuesday morning, organized by a man running in honor of the marathon's youngest victim, Martin Richard. The event will take place at Saint John's School in Canton, Mass.

Richard was killed while standing at the finish line with his family. Proceeds from the run will benefit “Build our Kids Success,” an after-school program.

There is an important closure for people who use the MBTA to keep in mind. The Copley Green Line station will be closed from noon until 3, due to the ceremony nearby. Green Line trains will roll straight from the Hynes Convention Center to Arlington Station.
