(This Week In Business) - After a couple of slow holiday season, could this be the year shoppers dig deeper in their pockets? Major discounts in November delivered the best gains for retailers in four years.

However, they may have gotten some coal in their stockings with the latest jobless figures. Unemployment climbed to 9.8% last month, up 0.2% from October. Its a 7-month high, and the American economy only added 39,000 jobs.
