Westboro, Mass. Man Accused of Stabbing 72-year-old Mother

(NECN: John Moroney) - Daniel Uhlman is charged with trying to kill his own mother.

The 44-year-old man from Westboro, Mass. says he is not guilty of what police described as a violent and bloody confrontation at the home where they both live.

Police were called to the green ranch on Haskell Street shortly before 10 o'clock Thursday night. They found a 72-year-old woman in the bathroom.

She had been stabbed multiple times - with wounds to her head and torso as well as other injuries to her wrist and face. The older woman was conscious and told police her son was responsible for what happened. Investigators says the suspect used four steak knives in the assault, breaking two of them in the process. A couple of the knives were discovered at the victim's bedside.

The defendant - whose attorney said he was the father of six children - was not at the family home when police arrived.

However, a short time later, a supervisor for the state Department of Transportation out monitoring the snow storm called Westboro Fire when he saw a man covered in blood walking east on East Main Street.

Police came and Uhlman was taken into custody.
