Boston Mayor: Summer Safety Must Be a Citywide Effort

Mayor Marty Walsh noted that Boston Police will have extra patrols in areas identified as crime hotspots

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh laid out the steps the city is taking to keep residents and visitors safe this summer.

He says summer safety must be a citywide effort.

"Communities need to come together around safety and individuals need to make smart choices. A lot of injuries that occur over the summer are not because of malicious acts, but result from the unnecessary risks that people take," he said.

Walsh noted that violent crimes and shootings are down this year, and that Boston Police will have extra patrols in areas it has identified as crime hotspots.

Mayor Walsh also shared tips on proper grill and firework safety tips to stay safe in the heat, along with information on programs available for young people this summer.
