“Caring Santa” Caring for Kids With Special Needs

There is a program at select malls across the nation that is offering sensory-friendly ways for these kids to get that cherished keepsake.

It’s the season for holiday music, shopping and the time-honored tradition of pictures with Santa.

But for many families with special-needs children this experience can be an impossible feat.

Now, there is a program at select malls across the nation that is offering sensory-friendly ways for these kids to get that cherished keepsake.

Bright lights, long lines and sights of a shopping mall can be overwhelming for even the most dedicated shopper.

Imagine that environment for a special needs child who just wants to meet Santa Claus.

That’s what the “Caring Santa” program was developed. Now in its third year at select Simon Mall properties, it offers a special sensory-controlled environment for kids with special needs.

Kids arrive before the mall open. Escalators are turned off, as well as music.
