19-year-old dies in fiery crash on I-495 in Hopkinton, police say

The Nissan driver, a 19-year-old from Franklin, died on scene. Her name has not been released.

A 19-year-old driver died in a fiery car crash on Interstate 495 in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, police said.

The crash took place on the northbound side of the highway in the area of mile marker 55.2 at about 1:10 p.m., Massachusetts State Police said.

Responding crews found the single vehicle involved, a 2012 Nissan Altima, engulfed in flames in the center median, and firefighters worked to put out the vehicle fire.

The Nissan operator, identified only as a 19-year-old from Franklin, was pronounced dead on scene, police said.

It took about five hours for the scene to clear, with everything wrapping up shortly after 6 p.m.

The crash and its possible causes remain under investigation.
