Joaquin produced hurricane force wind gusts in excess of 74 MPH for a time Sunday night on Bermuda, but now the storm is rapidly pulling away from the island.
The storm will continue to accelerate as it weakens moving out over the open Atlantic Ocean.
Even though it's weakening, Joaquin will continue to create high seas not far off the New England coastline. Wave heights will approach 20-30 feet well southeast of Nantucket.
Closer to shore, the surf has been active courtesy of our recent persistent northeast winds. Joaquin will keep the waves coming Monday and Tuesday. For that reason, a High Surf Advisory is in effect for the entire coast of Maine on Monday. Waves that will at times reach 8 feet. The seas will gradually decrease late week.
