Man Accused of Shooting Wife Seeks Charge Dismissal

Authorities allege Gregory Owens broke into the Saco home on Dec. 18 and shot his wife, Rachel Owens, and the homeowner.

A New Hampshire man facing state and federal charges for allegedly breaking into a Maine home and shooting his wife and the homeowner is seeking to have the federal charges dropped.

The Portland Press Herald reports the lawyer for 58-year-old Gregory Owens, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, has submitted a motion to dismiss the federal case on the grounds that both prosecutions stem from the same investigation.

Authorities allege the Army veteran broke into the Saco home on Dec. 18 and shot his wife, Rachel Owens, and the homeowner.

Prosecutors say Gregory Owens was having an affair, and the woman had threatened to tell his wife.

Prosecutors have until July 27 to respond to the motion. The case is scheduled for trial in August.
