A Maine man is in critical condition and two others were injured after a head-on crash in South Portland Monday night, according to authorities.

State police say a 2002 Toyata 4Runner was going southbound on I-295 around 9 p.m. when he lost control and crossed the median, and went airborne after hitting the guardrail, finally hitting a 2014 Jeep Cherokee head-on on the northbound side of the highway.

The driver of the Jeep, identified as 26-year-old Nicholas Dubose of Portland, seriously injured his head in the crash and is in critical condition at Maine Medical Center, police said.

His passenger, 25-year-old Thomas Netting, and the Toyota's driver, Paul Regan, 37, of Dayton, had minor injuries from the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
