Two people have been arrested for allegedly interfering with a contentious deer hunt in the Blue Hills Reservation in Massachusetts.
A spokesman for the Norfolk district attorney's office says environmental police arrested Erin Dart and Jonathon DiNapoli on Tuesday because they were in the woods making noise "to disturb and disrupt" the hunt.
They were released and ordered to appear in court on Dec. 17.
Dart and DiNapoli tell The Boston Globe they walk the trails of the reservation several times per week and had no intention of disrupting the hunt. They called their arrests a misunderstanding and said they were merely whistling so hunters would not mistake them for deer.
Animal rights activists have protested the hunt, which the state says is necessary to cull an out-of-control deer population.
