Albright to Deliver Tufts Commencement Address

Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is scheduled to deliver the commencement address at Tufts University this spring.

Albright will also receive an honorary doctor of laws degree during the ceremony scheduled for May 17.

Albright was nominated the nation's first woman secretary of state by President Bill Clinton in 1996 after serving on the staffs of U.S. Sen. Edmund Muskie; President Jimmy Carter; Geraldine Ferraro, and Michael Dukakis during his 1988 presidential bid.

As secretary of state, she's credited with reinforcing America's alliances, advocating for democracy and human rights and promoting American trade, business, and environmental standards.

Since leaving the post in 2001 she has become a best-selling author.

Tufts President Anthony Monaco says Albright's accomplishments align with the school's values of global leadership, public service and active engagement.
