Arrest Made in Playground Murder

Anildo Lopes Correia to be arraigned in killing of Ywron Martins

The suspect in a fatal stabbing during a brawl on a Brockton, Massachusetts, basketball court last week has been captured.

The Plymouth district attorney's office said in a statement Monday that 24-year-old Anildo Lopes Correia was arrested Sunday night in Fall River. He was arraigned Monday on a murder charge in Brockton District Court. Judge Paul McCallum ordered him to be held without bail.

District Attorney Timothy Cruz says 18-year-old Ywron Martins of Brockton died at a hospital Wednesday after being stabbed earlier in the day during the fracas at the James Edgar Playground. Two other people were stabbed but are expected to survive.

Authorities have not disclosed what sparked the fight. It's not clear if Correia has an attorney.

The playground was a childhood hangout for heavyweight boxing champion Rocky Marciano and recently underwent extensive renovations.
