A 13-year-old boy has died after a ski accident Saturday afternoon in Westford, Massachusetts.
Officials say Rajiv Paluri of Westford struck a tree at Nashoba Valley Ski Area around 2:20 p.m.
Paluri was taken to Lowell General Hospital and pronounced dead.
According to the ski resort, Paluri was wearing a helmet.
"All of us are deeply shaken by this incident," said Nashoba Valley General Manager Al Fletcher in a statement. "Our hearts are with his family."
Fletcher says it is the first fatality at the mountain.
School officials say Paluri was an eighth-grade student at Blanchard Middle School in Westford. Superintendent Bill Olsen tells NECN he was a "wonderful boy from a great family".
