Ex-College Football Player Pleads Guilty to Attack

Craig Parsons, of Newton, faces 2 1/2 years in jail if he violates conditions of his probation

A former Boston College football player has been sentenced to five years of probation after pleading guilty to beating up a homeless man.

Craig Parsons, of Newton, faces 2 1/2 years in jail if he violates conditions of his probation.

The 23-year-old Parsons pleaded guilty Monday to charges including aggravated assault and battery in connection with the attack on the 50-year-old man on Jan. 26 in the city's Allston neighborhood.

Prosecutors say Parsons and another man, who had played football at Marist College, punched and kicked the victim after a verbal altercation, sending him to the hospital with head injuries.

The attack stopped when a woman stepped between victim and assailants.

The victim said in court he still suffers from his injuries.

The other alleged assailant has a court date next month.
