Mass. Swimmer Dies in NH River

Nicholas S. Sann, 19, of Dracut was swimming in Pemigewasset River with 5 companions

A Massachusetts man drowned in a New Hampshire river while swimming with five companions.

Police in Woodstock received a call reporting a swimmer in distress in the Pemigewasset River around 1:40 p.m. Sunday.

Police say 19-year-old Nicholas S. Sann of Dracut jumped into an area of the river with a swift moving current and was overcome by the water. Several people from his party, as well as other witnesses, attempted to rescue him, but were unsuccessful.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they located the victim in approximately 12 feet of water. They were able to recover him and CPR was immediately performed.

Sann was ultimately pronounced deceased.
