Officer Faces DUI Charge

Officer James D'Andrea is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 15

A Worcester, Massachusetts, police officer is facing a drunken driving charge in connection with an accident in Dudley in October that that snapped a utility pole.

Officer James D'Andrea is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 15 in Dudley District Court.

The Telegram & Gazette reports
that a clerk magistrate found probable cause for the charges this week.

According to the police report, the 27-year-old D'Andrea was out of his damaged pickup truck by the time officers arrived.

The responding officer reported that D'Andrea's eyes were bloodshot and glassy and he detected the odor of alcohol on his breath. D'Andrea was not arrested.

He told police he crashed when a deer ran into the road in front of him.

He has been placed on restricted duty by the Worcester Police Department.
