Officials: Fire That Destroyed Winery Was Intentionally Set

A fire that destroyed a central Massachusetts winery late Sunday night was intentionally set, investigators say.

According to Massachusetts Fire Marshal Stephen Coan, the fire at Obadiah McIntyre Farm and Winery was an act of arson.

"All other potential accidental causes in the area of origin have been eliminated," the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services said in a statement.

Nathan Benjamin, who owns the winery, says he lost everything in the fire.

"We were here from the time the fire started at 10:30 until I gave up around 4:30 because I couldn't stand watching it go anymore," he said. "And it is, I lost, 108 medals, I lost my double-gold medals, I lost everything that I work for behind me starting in 2000, it's all gone."

Anyone with information is asked to call the state's arson hotline at 1 (800) 682-9229.
