Police: Homeless Sex Offender at High Risk to Re-Offend

The Sex Offender Registry Board has determined that a level 3 sex offender is at high risk to re-offend and poses a danger to the public.

The Sex Offender Registry Board has determined that a homeless registered sex offender is at high risk to re-offend and poses a danger to the public.

John Stangl, a Level 3 Sex Offender, is registered as homeless and is living in his van in Hyannis, Massachusetts; however, he has been spotted traveling around Cape Cod and the South Shore of the state.

On Wednesday, Stangl's vehicle was towed from the Morton Hospital parking lot in Taunton. Police said the vehicle had been parked there for over 12 hours, but there was no sign of Stangl at that location.

Stangl is not currently wanted by police, but officials consider him to be a substantial public safety risk.

In 2008, Stangl was convicted of open and gross lewdness and lascivious behavior.
