A police investigation is underway after a Massachusetts Stop & Shop employee was suspended Thursday for allegedly spying on co-workers in a bathroom with a camera.
The company said the employee, who has not been identified, is accused of placing a single camera in an employee bathroom in the store on Temple Street in Framingham. The bathroom is not accessible to customers.
Shoppers who spoke with NBC Boston on Friday said they were left feeling uneasy.
"You just go in there, you wouldn't think that you'd need to be concerned about that or worry about that,” said one customer who did not want their name used. “It's just unfortunate."

A Stop & Shop spokesperson said in a statement that employees’ privacy is of the utmost importance.
"We were shocked to learn of the allegations that a store associate attempted to violate the privacy of other associates at our Temple Street Framingham store and immediately suspended the individual," the statement said.
Despite the store management's shock, one customer wasn't so surprised.
"I mean, it happens quite a lot, so I'm not surprised,” said Dick Clark. “That's the way the world is. People do these things. I don't know what companies can do to stop them."
It is not clear if the employee will face any charges.
