The return of former Boston Symphony Orchestra music director Seiji Ozawa for the first time in a decade is among the highlights of the 2016 Tanglewood summer season.

The orchestra announced Wednesday that the 80-year-old Ozawa is scheduled to conduct Beethoven's Egmont Overture on July 9.

Ozawa will also lead the Swiss Academy String Quartet Ensemble and the Tanglewood Music Center in a program including the slow movement of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 16 in F and the first movement of Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings on July 5.

Ozawa's association with Tanglewood dates to 1960. He said in a statement that "Words cannot express the joy I feel about returning to Tanglewood."

Other highlights include appearances by the Boston Pops, James Taylor, Brian Wilson and Seth MacFarlane.

Tickets go on sale Sunday.
