A 67-year-old woman was seriously injured in a crash on U.S. Route 1 Thursday in Wrentham, Massachusetts.

Massachusetts State Police said the accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on Route 1, just south of GIllette Stadium in Foxboro.

According to police, the injured woman was driving north in a Volvo in the left lane when a Kia changed over from the middle lane and rear-ended her. The driver of the Volvo lost control, ended up in the southbound lane and got hit by a tractor trailer.

The traffic flow was seriously impeded, and drivers were urged to seek alternate routes.

Route 1 southbound was closed for a time, but reopened around 4:30 p.m.

The New England Patriots are hosting the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night, meaning thousands of fans will be making their way to the stadium. Heavy traffic was already being anticipated due to the game.
