A historic house in Springfield that was damaged by a tornado is being sold by the city as part of a revitalization effort.

A historic house in Springfield that was damaged by a tornado is being sold by the city as part of a revitalization effort.

Officials tell the Republican of Springfield developers can apply for a forgivable, interest-free loan of up to $25,000 toward exterior improvements. Changes must be reviewed and approved by the Springfield Historical Commission.

Numerous homes have been built or are in the process of being built after a tornado ripped through the city June 1, 2011.

Tina Quagliato, the city's director of disaster recovery and compliance, says the city could not rehabilitate the blighted, vacant house in the past, but hopes the incentives will help in its redevelopment.

An adjacent lot will also be sold with the home.

Proposals must be submitted by 2 p.m. May 27.
