Teacher Indicted on Child Abuse Charges

41-year-old Alexandra Romanos, a Somerville, Mass. teacher, plead not guilty in July to charges

A Somerville, Massachusetts, was indicted in connection to an inappropriate relationship with a 13-year-old minor, the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office announced Monday.

Forty-one-year-old Alexandra Romanos of Stoneham was indicted on four counts of aggravated rape of a child, eight counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 by a mandated reporter and disseminating material harmful to a minor.

Romanos plead not guilty to the charges back in July after her arrest, where a Somerville District Court judge ordered her $50,000 cash bail under certain terms, such as no contact with the victim or the victim's family, staying away from Somerville schools and no unsupervised contact with children under 16.

Authorities reportedly launched an investigating in late June after allegations of an inappropriate relationship between Romanos, an East Somerville Community School teacher since placed on administrative leave, and the child. Romanos allegedly initiated the sexual relationship with the child in late February, which occurred both on and off school property.

Romanos will be arraigned on Aug. 13 in Woburn Superior Court.
