Thousands of Wreaths Heading to Cemetery

Thousands of Maine-made wreaths are on their way to Arlington National Cemetery in Massachusetts

Thousands of Maine-made wreaths are on their way to Arlington National Cemetery in Massachusetts.

A convey escorted by Patriot Guard Riders and First Lady Ann LePage left the Worcester Wreath Co. on Sunday and is making a series of stops Monday between Scarborough, Maine, and Topsfield, Massachusetts, as it heads south.

Once the wreaths arrive, volunteers will place them on headstones Saturday, Dec. 13.

This is the 100th anniversary of Arlington National Cemetery, and Wreaths Across America is aiming to have a wreath for every headstone - more than 200,000 of them.

All told, Wreaths Across America expects to exceed last year's shipments of 540,000 wreaths to adorn veterans' graves in hundreds of locations in all 50 states and overseas.
