Police say an employee of a Westfield, Massachusetts, road salt manufacturing facility has died in a work-related accident.
Capt. Michael McCabe says emergency personnel were called to the Cargill Salt facility just before 11 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a person "seen in an awkward position on a conveyor belt."
The outdoor conveyor belt services a salt pile.
The victim, identified by police as 33-year-old Robert Crossetti, of Westfield, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Local police as well as the federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration are investigating.
A Cargill spokesman says the facility is leased to another party, but said of the death, it's "truly a sad day in Westfield."
