A 7-year-old girl who was placed on the wrong transport van leaving school in Brockton, Massachusetts, on Friday has been found safe, police say.

Police say the child was mistakenly placed in the wrong transportation van in the parking lot of the Angelo Elementary School parking lot on North Main Street.

Investigators confirmed later Friday evening that she had been found safe.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South said in a statement to NBC10 Boston that it is deeply grateful the girl had been reunited with her family.

"While the student is not a BGCMS member, we are thankful that she was safe and well cared for at our Brockton Clubhouse after mistakenly boarding a Club van at school dismissal time," President and CEO Derek Heim said in a statement.

Heim added that the Boys & Girls Club will work closely with Brockton Public Schools to review their policies and practices related to transportation to/from schools and their Clubhouse "to ensure student safety at every level along our continuum of care."
