N.H. Prep School Grad Registers as Sex Offender in Vermont

He was convicted of assaulting a 15-year-old classmate

A graduate of an elite New Hampshire prep school who was convicted of assaulting a 15-year-old classmate has registered as a sex offender in Vermont.

Owen Labrie was on the state's registry Tuesday.

He was convicted of misdemeanor sexual assault for a 2014 encounter with the girl at St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire. Prosecutors tied the assault to a competition in which seniors sought to have sex with underclassmen. Labrie was 18 at the time.

The now-20-year-old also was convicted of a felony count of using a computer to lure the girl, requiring him to register for life as a sex offender.

Labrie, from Tunbridge, Vermont, was sentenced to a year in jail and can petition to be removed from the list 15 years after he finishes his sentence. He remains free pending an appeal.
