A Woonsocket, Rhode Island, man who authorities say raped a 10-year-old girl and told police it was a form of sex education is headed to prison.
Fifty-three-year-old Michael Powell pleaded no contest Monday to two counts of first-degree child molestation. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison with 10 to serve and the rest suspended with probation.
Powell was charged with two incidents that occurred last April. He was arrested after police took statements from the girl and her mother and then interviewed Powell.
Authorities say Powell initially denied any wrongdoing but then acknowledged that he had inappropriate contact with the girl while trying to teach her about sex.
