Prosecutors say a Charlestown, Rhode Island, man and former employee of the Rhode Island Veteran's Cemetery is expected to plead guilty to charges that he stole veterans' gravestones to use as flooring in his home.
In his initial appearance before a judge in federal court, an attorney for 59-year-old Kevin Maynard entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. However, prosecutors said Monday he is expected to change that plea at his next court appearance.
The Sun of Westerly (http://bit.ly/1LedzUm) reports that Maynard is charged with stealing 150 worn or broken granite gravestones and other items from the Exeter cemetery.
As part of the agreement, prosecutors said Maynard will plead guilty to theft of government property in exchange for one year of probation and 500 hours of community service.
