Man arrested after hours-long standoff in Charlestown

A man has been taken into custody by police after an hours-long standoff in Boston's Charlestown neighborhood on Saturday.

It all started around 4:30 yesterday evening in the area of Caldwell and Perkins Streets.

Police were called for a report of an emotionally disturbed person and about fifteen minutes later, witnesses said he was armed with some type of firearm.

Boston police, K-9s, the SWAT team and negotiators were going back and forth with the suspect for hours until finally taking him into custody around 1 a.m. on Sunday.

Boston EMS brought the man to a local hospital for evaluations.

Neighbors were stuck inside for hours last night as this was all happening.

This morning, he apartment is frozen while detectives wait for a search warrant.

The investigation is ongoing.
