Death of 11-Month-Old Vermont Infant Ruled Homicide

The January death of a Vermont infant has been ruled a homicide.

State police announced Wednesday that Karsen Rickert, an 11-month-old boy from Ludlow, died from asphyxia due to strangulation and/or smothering, and that the manner of his death is a homicide.

The announcement came after an autopsy was completed by New Hampshire's chief medical examiner's office.

Rickert was reportedly found unresponsive on Jan. 11. He was taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities did not name a suspect or announce any charges. But in January, police said the incident happened at the home Rickert's mother, Abigail Wood, shared with her boyfriend, Tyler Pollender-Savery.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Vermont State Police at 802-722-4600.
